The service was the idea of Parish Priest of St Hilda’s, Revd Darren Percival, as one of the latest in a series of community focussed events for the area.
During the service, which included music from the Hunslet Corps of the Salvation Army, Fr Darren, blessed a number of dogs, goldfish, and the terrapins.
“If you were to turn the nave of the church upside down then it would like a boat so it was nice to have an ark of creatures great and small present for the service,” he said.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for the joy that these creatures bring into our lives in all sorts of ways,” said Fr Darren.
